  1. I was told by a previous massage therapist that I should look into rolfing massage for my ankle after I broke it two years ago. I broke the cuboid and the talus in my left ankle, so I have 5 screws and a plate in my foot now, and I have limited movement in my foot now. I did physical therapy and it helped me walk again, which was a concern of the doctor that I wasn’t going to be able to, but I have two scars that have keeloid and still tingle today.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you,
    Stephanie

Thanks for writing!! The short answer is yes, Rolfing can help you. But there is a much longer answer. I’d love to talk with you about this, and it would be easier on the phone. (I’ve lost my voice, currently, so can we arrange a time in the future?)

Rolfing help to balance the structure of the body, so wherever there is a soft tissue imbalance (muscle, tendon, ligament, fascia), Rolfing will help restore balance — to the degree possible (limited by surgery, implants, etc.). However, you are also experiencing imbalances everywhere in your body as a result of this injury and Rolfing will DEFINITELY help all of that as well.

Some Rolfers will only do the Series (10-12 sessions), and some will do spot work. Personally, I find that the spot work helps to put out fires, but doesn’t hod like the complete Series does. I am willing to do that if you want to test the waters, as long as you understand that the changes are not as long lasting as the Series. (If you’ve already had the Series, the changes seem to last longer.)

I am in Harrisonburg, Virginia… are you nearby? If you are elsewhere, I’d be happy to help you find a Rolfer in your area. And please consider a phone conversation to help clarify the points and ask more questions.

      Be well~
      Jenny
